In Middle School Social Studies, students in grades 6-8 explore the Prince George’s County Public Schools Curriculum, learning about topics in geography, United States history, and world history. Besides the curricular content, students are challenged to improve their organization, note-taking, and study skills by applying them to academic topics.


In the 6th grade Early World History class, students learn about the development and growth of world civilizations.  In the eighth grade US History class, students learn about the founding of our nation, the colonial period and revolution, the development of the constitution, and historical events leading up to the Civil War. Literacy, writing and social studies skills and processes are embedded throughout the course.  Examples of skills covered include: analyzing mythology from around the world; learning how to use parts of a textbook; interpreting and making maps; analyzing primary source material; interpreting and making graphs; sequencing events; and, writing research papers.
