Chelsea School Completes Relocation to Laurel

On August 24, 2026, Chelsea School opened its doors to students at its new campus in Laurel, Maryland. The new building, a 32,000 square-foot, single-tenant structure, will be able to accommodate more students, expand programming, and provide learning spaces that will allow for movement, multisensory instruction, and innovative teaching methods. Chelsea School’s new home sits on a five acre lot just down the road from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics campus and is nestled against a protected nature reserve. The location, just off Route 29, is accessible from multiple Maryland counties.

Founded in 1976, Chelsea School has taken up residence in a variety of settings over the years. Starting in a church basement, the school would later occupy Blair House and the former Academy of the Holy Names in Silver Spring, as well as its former residence in Hyattsville across from PG Plaza. Although the zip code has changed, one thing has remained the same for 50 years: Chelsea School’s mission to serving students with learning differences in a rigorous college-preparatory environment.

“Our new building allows us to grow in so many ways,” said Kristal Weems-Bradner, Head of School. “It is the school that our children deserve – a place where they can flourish as students and as young people. A place where they can become life-long learners and find success in areas that previously discouraged them.”
