Board
Letter to the Community
Dear Friends and
Colleagues of Chelsea School:
This letter
announces a change in Chelsea School's
leadership. Head of School Tony Messina
has achieved the goals he developed
with the Board of Governors in 2005: he
improved Chelsea's visibility in the
community, stabilized its administration
and built an excellent special
education faculty. Tony now wishes to
explore different options for working
towards school reform, including
educational consulting and the charter
school
movement. For these reasons, Tony has
decided not to return as Head of School
for the academic year of 2011-2012. Kate
Fedalen, current Assistant Head of
School, will serve as the Interim Head
beginning July 1, 2011. Tony will
continue to work closely with Kate
through the summer in preparation for
the
next school year to ensure a smooth
transition in leadership.
Kate brings to
the position six years of working with
Tony
as Assistant Head of School as well as
23 years of experience at Chelsea
School. The Board is confident in Kate's
leadership and believes that along with
a wonderful, veteran teaching staff,
Chelsea School's mission and vision will
continue on the positive path set forth
by Tony and his management team. Before
beginning a national search for a new
Head of School, the Board will undertake
a comprehensive strategic plan to ensure
that Chelsea School
continues in a positive direction,
The Board wishes
to thank Tony for his six years of
leadership and his dedication to the
students and staff. Tony has made
significant improvements to academic
programming and school community
development, and has increased Chelsea
School's visibility in
the metropolitan area. We are grateful
for his service and wish him all the
best.
