A special
message from a 2008 alumni:
An alumni’s message to
current Chelsea students:
Who wants a powerful future? Do you want to
affect your community? Do you want to help
people?
The only way to have a powerful future
is to do well in high school and college.
The people who have a successful life are
not only the ones who got straight A’s in
school. The world’s most successful people
are the ones who were organized, worked
hard, and stayed motivated. Some examples:
- Ben
Carson, world famous brain surgeon,
struggled in school. He stayed motivated and
used his tools to achieve his goals.
- Thomas
Edison was thrown out of many schools. He
knew how he learned and used his skills to
invent many great things.
Getting Through College
If you do the following, you will survive
college and have a powerful future.
1.) Organization:
-Get a 1-2 inch D-ring binder
for each class. Your professor will tell you
to keep it organized. Get at least 5
dividers for each binder to organize your
papers.
- Get a plan book for your homework and time
management. Color-code it so it will stand
out to you.
- Get a USB stick for your papers.
2.) Use
your resources:
-Time is a resource. Your
time is valuable; use it. Plan your time
around your work and transportation. Plan a
little fun time every day for video games,
friends, and family – whatever is fun for
you.
-Go to your advisors, professors, tutors,
and friends for help.
-Use the technology in the labs, centers and
at home.
-Use highlighters, paper, outlines, study
guides, and books to help you.
3.) Get your butt to class:
a. -Be on
time to class; stay in class
b. -Turn off your phone in
class
c. –Pay attention to the
teacher and not your friends
d. –Ask questions, write
down homework clearly, and take notes
Do these things, and you’ll
survive your first year of college.
